Martha and I want to thank the anonymous donor who provided us a gift card to Publix. What a blessing from the Lord!  Thank you, thank you!

We want to welcome Breakaway Community Church (Leesburg) into the fellowship of our association under the “conditional” provision of our By-laws. Thursday, January 19, the Executive Committee unanimously welcomed this church into our fellowship. This church will be voted on at our Annual Meeting for full membership in the association per our By-laws. Scott Tomlinson is Associate Pastor and they issued a call on January 22 to Jay Barcus as pastor. Congratulations to Jay and to the church! We are happy to welcome them!

Twenty-seven from 14 churches attended this Executive Committee meeting. We also heard reports from the Administrative Team, Discipleship Team, Evangelism/Missions Team, Prayer Team, and WMU. We also reviewed the December and yearend financial reports. Praise the Lord we ended the year with all bills paid and $25 left in checking! We did not meet budget for the year in contributions and spent more than the contributions. Again praise the Lord that we had put aside contingency funds from our previous good years to take care of the deficits.

The 128th Annual Meeting of the Mallary Baptist Association was held October 20th at First Baptist Church Sylvester. There were 118 messengers who registered representing 33 churches. There were also an additional 28 guests present. The business session was a blessed time of doing God’s business for the association. Jim Eure (Pine Forest) was elected as Moderator, Charlie Brown (Unity) was re-elected as Associate Moderator, and Alisa Hamilton (Bethel) was re-elected as Clerk/Treasurer. Congratulations to all of these! It is great to have a layman as our Moderator--not every association has that!!! We adopted a Budget for 2012 of $178, 248 which is a 10% decrease from this year’s budget. The Nominating Team presented and had approved an almost full slate of personnel for our teams and organization positions. The Book of Reports including the 2011-12 calendar was approved also. There was an excellent spirit of cooperation exhibited in our business session.

The Georgia Baptist Convention has just concluded. I have been thinking a lot lately about the condition of our churches (in our association, in Georgia and in America) and the condition of America. I am convinced the situation in America (the economy, the government, the decline in morality, and the list goes on) is because we, the church, are not what God wants us to be. There is apathy in our churches. There is “sin in the camp” to use an Old Testament term. We pastors and churches are trying to change, but we are looking for the next new program, strategy, study, and/or person to make the change. While I respect very much the leaders of the Georgia Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention, I am saddened that many of these leaders are trying to find that same new whatever to cause the change we all yearn for!
